Talk about not being made welcome
by Tony - Sunday 30th 2008f March 2008
I had the misfortune to attend a 50th birthday party for about 200 guests at the Lindisfarne on Saturday night (29th March). The function itself was very enjoyable but the evening as a whole was spoiled by the attitude of the manageress who, despite the fact that it was pouring down outside, was determined to get everybody off the premises by 11.30 (last orders having been called at 11 with serving continuing until 10 past) to the point that she attempted to manhandle a number of guests off the premises. To add insult to injury, while guests(!) had to wait for their taxis outside, with no cover available, the staff waited in the dry in the entrance area for their taxis. Having run a licensed premise myself I believe the same result of getting the staff away without causing agro to paying customers could have easily been achieved with a little common sense and flexibility on the part of the manageress on the lines of "I'm really sorry, I know its pouring down outside but a taxi is on its way for the staff and when it arrives I will need to lock the front door, in the mean time you are welcome to wait in the entrance hall". If this had been said, whilst some people would stiil have got wet they would have felt she had tried to do her best. The way it was handled would lead me and many other guests, and friends to whom they will have relayed their tale, not to book this venue for future events of their own nor to wish to attend events there to which they are invited
